New Zootool

I’ve been pushing the biggest update in months online today and I can’t wait to hear what you think about it! The community is growing and growing and you guys post so many awesome and inspiring things every day, that it was about time to improve the whole browsing experience on Zootool. From today on you will be able to see a lot more entries at once and skip through them faster. The new design is wider and looks much better on large screens imho. This new update also makes place for more ideas and features I will add soon. There are still some sections with the old design, but I will update them step by step in the next days.

Please send me all your feedback about the new update to zoopport@gmail.com

Cheers,
Bastian

  1. Love the new layout! I just got started yesterday and I’m loving it already. Discovered this through the reeder iPhone App.

  2. LOVE it. Thank you!!

  3. Aesthetically, yes I believe this looks better. However, on a more functional side, I’m not so sure. First of all, I love how they new add/share/flag buttons are, but since the single entry pages still have the old buttons, this breaks the unified UI of the site. I also feel as if this is harder for the human eye to scan through entries compared to the old version. Maybe it’s just me but when things are organized in small thumbs it is much easier to skip over something good. The only time thumbnails works for me is if I’m looking for something specially (which is why I like thumbnails for the actual zoo), not when I’m just browsing for something interesting. Perhaps a toggle button for list/thumb view would be best? But hey, maybe I’ll grow on it and get used to it and end up liking it more. Don’t get me wrong; I do like it, but I liked the old version better as of this point.

    Cheers,
    Ryan Collins.

  4. Ah! Sorry didn’t see the “Please send me all your feedback about the new update to zoopport@gmail.com” :\

  5. Very nice New zootool !!

  6. Lovely job. A fantastic service continues to evolve. So good.

  7. Thanks guys!!! :)

  8. @Ryan

thanks for your detailed feedback!! :) The blog is the perfect place in this case, so don’t worry about not sending it via email.

Both versions have their advantages and their disadvantages. I agree that it is easier to skip good stuff with the small previews, but the big ones made it so much harder to get a good overview and keep browsing and the small previews will make it also much easier to skip stuff you are definitely not interested in.

I feel that this will really help Zootool to move forward and as I mentioned it comes along with new possibilities for features and new ideas, which is one very important part for me and hopefully will be for you soon :)

I also agree on the inconsistency with the buttons, but I plan to correct that sooner or later.

I hope the new version will grow on you and you keep adding such huge amounts of awesome stuff :))

  9. Looking awesome so far!
Real nice to see these big updates coming to Zootool

  10. Now it’s time to get more developers to integrate ZooTool into their Apps for iPhone! Reeder is a good start, but I’m missing integration in Twitter App, NewsRack App and so on…

I’d like to abandon usage of Instapaper or ReadItLater. ZooTool could be the leading tool for collecting stuff!

I already contacted the developers of Twitter App and Newsrack but didn’t get an answer so far.

    ZooTool is to cool! :-)

  11. @Gadgetto I agree, but it’s pretty difficult to get developers to integrate services which don’t have millions of users. I’m constantly contacting people and try to convince them to add Zootool, but in the end the best arguments are a lot of users who contact them :))

  12. Bastian,
I am doing what I can to get others on board, but alas I am just one person in the southwest …

I use click to flash and a few other anti cookies stuff in my browser so I need to find away to click to add in my zoo. I basically log into the site now and try to find the click to add new content button, but there is only a button to add a pack.
Otherwise I like the clean look of zootool.

    be well

    laurence

p.s. does not mean I am not looking for the click to add button, I will keep looking…

  13. Damn, i really love this site!
The style of design really fits mine to.
    Keep up the good work!

  14. i’m new this site,but i really like it,for first sight!

  15. I love ZooTool!

It’s by far the best bookmarking tool on the web but the only thing that concerns me is how long you’ll b open for, I’m praying your ad revenue is sufficient because I would hate to wake up 1 day to find it out it’s closed because it couldn’t freakin compete with … diigo .

    Other than that great work!

  16. @A I totally understand your concerns! We are here for three years now and we plan to keep it going :) The ad revenue is enough to pay our monthly bills and all the work on Zootool is done in my spare time. I’m also currently working on Zootool Pro accounts, which will bring additional features and hopefully some more revenue soon. In the next weeks a paid iPhone app is coming as well.
